Let's learn more about the team

Dr Valentina de Rogatis

Principal Clinical Psychologist

Hi, I am Valentina, an accredited HCPC Principal Clinical Psychologist. I am the founder of TheSpaceForYou Therapy Service, an online service designed for individuals seeking a space to reflect on their lives and embark on a journey toward emotional well-being.

I qualified as a Practitioner Psychologist in 2009 and I have over 10 years of experience in the NHS and private practice, I have worked across a diverse range of settings, including mental health, community services and physical health services.

Psychologist for depression and anxiety

I speak English and Italian.

In my private practice, I see mainly adults, and I offer short- to long-term therapy. I like to work flexibly, integrating different strategies from a range of therapeutic models, to enable a collaborative and adaptable approach which can be tailored to your therapeutic goals and needs.  Through therapy, I will help you to embrace changes providing you with tools to navigate the storms that you are facing and thrive.

I am Italian and offer therapy both in Italian and English

Specialist interests and expertise

  • Low mood and anxiety

  • Stress, Sleep and Burn-out

  • Long Term Conditions and chronic physical health issues

  • Low self-esteem and high levels of self-criticism

  • Pre and post-surgery support

  • Appearance distress

I have specialised in working with low mood, anxiety, panic and stress. My clients often complain about feeling tired, being unable to concentrate, lacking motivation and being unable to sleep. Often physical symptoms are the first to be recognised but unfortunately, these are often underestimated. I have supported many clients who were suffering from extreme stress and experienced physical and mental exhaustion. Burnout has become extremely common in our society.
I also love to support clients with low self-esteem. We all have an inner voice that sometimes makes us doubt ourselves. When this voice becomes too loud, it can be difficult to face the world. Therapy can help you become more aware of your thoughts, observe them, and learn when to let them go.

Main Modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT),

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can help you to manage your feelings by changing the way you think and behave. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) helps you face and embrace your challenges rather than avoid them, helps you to identify your values and use them to guide your life changes and live a fulfilling and meaningful life. Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) helps managing shame and self-criticism developing your own self-compassion and compassion for others. I am also trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) an evidence based psychotherapy approach  that helps individuals and couples identify, explore, and express their emotions in a safe, supportive environment. It aims to improve emotional bonding and communication, enhancing relationship dynamics. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy designed to help people process and heal from trauma by using bilateral stimulation (like guided eye movements) to reprocess distressing memories, reducing their emotional charge and helping individuals integrate them in a healthier way.

Areas of interest
I have an interest is working with Long Term Conditions and chronic physical health issues. I have led a Long-Term Conditions Psychology Service for patients with diabetes, respiratory conditions and heart disease supporting them in coping with their health conditions and other life stressors. I have also worked with clients with long COVID-19, chronic pain, IBS and skin conditions.

I also specialise in working with appearance-related concerns and visible differences. In a world where appearance is inordinately important, everyone with a visible difference or perceived difference can easily lose their sense of worth and confidence. For the last few years, I have been the clinical lead of an Orthognathic Psychological Service in London, supporting patients who have emotional distress around their body image, in particular their face and smile, and are considering undergoing jaw surgery.

Cosmetic surgery consultation

I provide psychological consultation prior to cosmetic surgical procedures. These include but are not limited to, rhinoplasty, genioplasty, breast augmentation/reduction, and orthognathic surgery. As part of my service, I will write for you a report with my recommendations and liaise with your consultant if helpful to do so. I offer support in the decision making, pre and post-surgery support and appearance-related therapy.

I am a very empathetic clinician and I am very passionate about connecting with people and supporting them to be the person that they want to be. I work in a very collaborative way, helping you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and find your own answers to the challenges you face. Additionally, I will share strategies to cope with and manage difficult thoughts and feelings that may be preventing you from living the life you want. We will work together to identify and address these obstacles, allowing you to move forward with greater confidence and clarity. My goal is to support you in developing the skills and resilience needed to overcome these challenges and achieve a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Ismat Tarr-Hamid

Clinical Psychologist

I am a HCPC registered clinical psychologist with almost a decade of experience. I trained in South Africa and worked in a state psychiatric hospital and community outpatient clinics where I worked with a diverse range of clients from all socio-economic backgrounds, cultures and languages. I then went into the private sector, where I spent a significant amount of time before I moved to the UK. I also have experience in working in the NHS in community adult mental health.

I’m passionate about working with adults, especially when it comes to issues like adjustment difficulties, depression, anxiety, burnout, low self-esteem, relationship challenges, and self-development. I am special interested in working with people from previously disadvantaged and marginalised groups and/or ethnically diverse backgrounds. I aim to offer compassionate and personalised care to each person’s unique situation.

I see the process of therapy as a collaborative journey where we create a safe space together for you to explore your story and discover your inner resilience. My style is warm and engaging, but I also believe in challenging you when it’s necessary. I think the therapeutic relationship is key to making real progress, and I strive to build a supportive environment where we can work together to bring about positive change. Being an integrative psychologist, I often draw upon humanistic approaches. I’m committed to respecting and embracing your unique background and experiences and crafting treatment plans that truly fit who you are.

  • Low self-worth

  • Relationship challenges

  • Self-development

I’m aware that the decision to see a psychologist, and therapy itself, is an incredibly personal journey. I’m also acutely aware of how daunting taking that first step can be. As much as I firmly believe in the healing power of therapy and have seen its benefits far and wide, I do realise that there can be some discomfort with the idea of speaking to a psychologist. Whether you have experienced therapy before, or are willing to try out the process for the first time, I aim to create an environment that is secure, safe and accepting. After all, this journey might just be the most important one you’ll ever make.

Linda Rosenbaum

With over 33 years of experience in mental health in private practice, I have worked across the lifespan with children, parents, individual adults, couples and families.

My therapeutic approach is integrative and flexible depending on the clinical needs of each client. I draw primarily from a psychodynamic psychotherapy approach which fundamentally explores the reasons underlying our thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

I speak English and Afrikaans.

Understanding both the conscious and unconscious aspects of ourselves gives us more choices in everyday life. I also use evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) where necessary. Overarchingly, I work within a relational model of therapy, which holds that the growth and health of the client rests on a good relationship with the self and others. The therapeutic relationship sits at the core of that. Relational patterns and personal obstacles are explored in the safety of the therapeutic relationship which provides the client with a better understanding of themselves and the capacity to manage difficult feelings. I value authenticity in the therapeutic space and aim to develop the client's capacity for reflection on themselves and their relationship with others. This I believe, enhances the client's emotional and physical well-being, personal fulfilment and interpersonal relationships.

I offer both short-term and longer-term psychotherapy.

Specialist interests and expertise

  • Couple Therapy - Relationships and Parenting Challenges

  • Mood and Anxiety disorders

  • Trauma / Sexual abuse

  • Low Self Esteem

  • Chronic physical health conditions such as cancer, cardiac and respiratory problems, MS, epilepsy, diabetes, autoimmune conditions

I  have a broad range of experience in working with racial, cultural, gender, sexual and neurodiverse clients.

I have a particular interest in attachment relationships including the parent/infant relationship, parenting in general, mothers struggling with pregnancy, birth trauma and post-natal difficulties, all of which may put the mother/infant dad at risk of attachment problems.

I really enjoy working with couples, I aim to provide specialised support to help improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen your relationship. Together, we can work towards building a deeper understanding and a more meaningful connection with each other.

I will see individual clients over 18 years of age, parents of children of all ages and couples online.

Katherine Smith

I have over 12 years of experience working therapeutically in both NHS and private sector services. I work therapeutically with individuals who are struggling with emotional and psychological distress.

The heart of my therapeutic approach is Person-Centred Counselling, which I believe is fundamental for therapeutic growth and change. I aim to create a safe and non-judgemental space where individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace.

Katherine Head Shot.jpg

I speak English.

Main modalities:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

I have experience working in a range of services, including bereavement, children and young people, older adult psychiatry, adult mental health, health psychology, and working with psychosis. I currently work in private practice. Private practice has allowed me to work flexibly with a variety of individuals presenting with a range of mental health difficulties as well as severe and enduring mental health issues. Private practice offers me the opportunity to focus more on my areas of interest and expertise. My skills lie in working with those who have been impacted by trauma and struggling with relationships, and most importantly, making sense of personal experiences and the impact those continue to have on them today. I adapt my ways of working to meet a client’s individual needs, and try and encourage people to be kinder to themselves and value their self-worth.

Specialist interests and expertise:

  • EMDR Therapy (both trauma focused and non-trauma focused)

  • Relationship difficulties with the self and others

  • Difficulties from childhood (including abuse and attachments)

  • Low mood and anxiety

  • Bereavement, grief, and end of life care

  • Children and Young People (including Play Therapy)

I tailor sessions to my clients unique needs and experiences. I begin therapy by creating a safe and welcoming space, either face-to-face or remotely. It is important I can offer an emotional environment that fosters an atmosphere of warmth, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. This then allows me to build trust gradually with my clients, and we can explore what is bringing them to therapy and understanding their story. I find I empathise deeply and strive to understand experiences from an individuals perspective. I hope this helps clients feel validated, understood, and accepted. I aim to promote autonomy and self-exploration, encouraging clients to take the lead in their therapy sessions. I also aim to promote self-acceptance and help clients develop a compassionate attitude toward themselves.

Dr Charlene Plunkett

Photo_edited_edited_edited.jpg

I speak English and Italian.

I am genuinely interested in helping people achieving their best in every aspect of their life. A meaningful life is indeed a fully lived life and I like helping people seeking their true meaning and purpose in life.

I offer support to people suffering from a wide range of psychological and emotional problems: from anxiety to depression, loss of life meaning and direction, anger and frustration. I am happy to discuss your difficulties and work out together if I can be of any help to you.

Specialist interests and expertise

I am also very intrigued by the psyche and body connection. I teach and research immunology and I have a particular interest in immune diseases with a psychological ‘component’ such as:

  • endometriosis

  • infertility

  • rheumatoid arthritis

  • lupus

  • Crohn’s disease

Main modalities:

As an integrative therapist I rely upon several theoretical frameworks, this includes:

  • Psychodynamic (understanding and exploring the roots of your problems)

  • Humanistic (focusing specifically on you as a unique individual)

  • Existential (looking at our meaning and purpose in life)

  • Transpersonal (going beyond our understanding of life and living)

Therapy can be tailored to meet your specific needs and can be either long-term or short-term, depending on the nature of the challenges you're facing and your personal goals. Whether you're seeking brief, focused support for a specific issue or ongoing therapy for deeper exploration and healing, we can work together to determine the most appropriate approach for your journey.

I see psychotherapy as a journey that allows you to life and one’s feelings and emotions under a new light. Having a dedicated time to discuss your problems or doubts in a open and free way with with someone that is there - just to listen to you - it’s tremendously helpful.

Candy Stripes

Our approach

We offer short and long-term online therapy to adults. I like to work flexibly, integrating different strategies from a range of therapeutic models, to enable a collaborative and adaptable approach which can be tailored to your therapeutic goals and needs. We have a particular interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). I use supervision and attend regularly workshops, trainings and conferences.

We offer a very active form of therapy. It’s not simply talking about your problems and feelings. We will work together as a team, we will explore your difficulties with the aim to help you to be the person you want to be and make positive changes in your life sharing with you new skills to handle difficult thoughts and feelings more effectively. Part of the therapeutic work is an exploration of emotional and behavioural patterns, which can contribute to maintaining some of the difficulties. Often we can make sense of these re-occurring patterns by linking them with our past experiences.

Appointments typically last 50 minutes and are usually held on a weekly or fortnightly basis, but can be arranged more or less frequently if required. During the first session you will have the opportunity to discuss your needs or difficulties, what you would like to achieve or change through therapy. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions and share any thoughts about this process.

We will help by:

  • Providing a safe space to reflect and get in touch with your emotions.

  • Bringing out your strengths.

  • Developing new coping skills.

  • Supporting you setting new goals and planning for the future.

  • Finding long-term solutions and avoiding short-term fixes.

  • Developing resilience (to bounce back from adversity and lead a fulfilling life).

  • Improve your general wellbeing.
